The elite Karava residential neighbourhood of Gintota

At least from the late 1800s to the mid 1900s, there's been an elite Karava residential area around the Gintota Railway station and Galle Road.

අවම වශයෙන් 1800 ශතකයේ අග සිට 1900 ශතකයේ මැද පමණ දක්වා, ගිංතොට දුම්රිය ස්ථානය සහ ගාලු පාර අවට ප්‍රදේශයේ ප්‍රභූ කරාව පවුල් බොහෝ ගණනක් ජීවත් වී තිබේ.

* The leading importer/exporter with offices in Colombo, Galle and India, A. W. P Don Davit de Silva (c.1850-1915) of Tangalle and his family at No. 264, Galle Rd. Gintota.

* The extremely successful importer and exporter of Galle and Colombo, K. C. Juanis de Silva (c.1860- 1924) and his family, at No. 255, Galle Rd. Gintota. The house has since been demolished and the Amari Hotel's staff quarters are now on that property:

* Industrialist, M. S. Simon de Silva who lived at "Siri Giri" , Station Road, Gintota. He had two sons and 5 daughters. His London qualified son was Chartered Civil Engineer, M. S. M. De Silva:

ගිංතොට, දුම්රිය පොල පාරේ, "සිරි ගිරි" හි පදිංචිව සිටි එම්. එස්. සයිමන් ද සිල්වා මැතිතුමා. එතුමා ට එක් පුතෙක් සහ දියණියන් 5 දෙනෙක් සිටියේය. වරලත් සිවිල් ඉංජිනේරු, එම්.එස්. එම්. ද සිල්වා එතුමාගේ පුතා ය.

* James Amarasuriya was a brother of Muhandiram Thomas de Silva Amarasuriya. He was married to Laura from Appu Hennadige Don Baban family. Her father was

A. H. D. Bastian de Silva of Matale her brother was Justice L. B. De Silva. The couple's palatial house was close to the Gintota bridge.
